Nominations for Natalie Burton Memorial Award closing soon

Do you know a high school student who has shown great strength by overcoming adversity? Why not nominate them for the 2016 Natalie Burton Memorial Award?

Nominations for the annual Natalie Burton Memorial Award will close on Friday, 23 September. Residents are encouraged to nominate any Hawkesbury high school student, whom they feel is a worthy recipient. The winner will be awarded with the prestigious Natalie Burton Memorial Award trophy and $200 prize money.

Natalie Burton was a remarkable individual who died from cancer in March 2003 at the age of 32. Natalie was an exceptional student who accomplished a great deal during her life. The purpose of the Award is to provide a means of allowing Natalie’s life and her extraordinary achievements to inspire students to overcome adversity in their own lives.

According to Elizabeth Turner, Natalie Burton’s mother, the award is intended for a recipient who has faced a challenging circumstance and through their application and determination, overcome this adversity, to succeed.

“This circumstance could be a disability, illness and serious accident, loss of a family member or other situation,” Ms Turner said.

The award is open to male or female students and is not restricted to only academic achievement; it may take the form of community, sporting or general achievements and improvements.
