WINDSOR RECEIVES BOOST FOR SHOPFRONTS AND MURALS

Enhancements in Windsor Mall are underway, with the completion of the first refreshed shopfront through Council’s new Shopfront Improvement Scheme and new mural designs being painted in two laneways.

The Shopfront Improvement Scheme has a focus on enhancing the appearance of the Windsor streetscape by activating street frontages, repairing and maintaining buildings, and celebrating the eclectic and unique character of Windsor’s Town Centre. Following the completion of a pilot site, the Windsor Shopfront Improvement Scheme is now open for interested shop owners and or tenants to apply for funding for design work and contribution towards works.

Council has created the scheme to assist shop owners, tenants and landlords to improve the external appearance of their premises. The grants are match funded by the applicant themselves. For more information and a grant application, contact Placemaking Coordinator Charles Liggett on 4560 4527 or email [email protected]

Community members will also see the painting of the murals underway on two sites chosen in Windsor Mall. The outside wall of the Guys Stuff retail shop, which is adjacent to a pedestrian walkway, is being painted, and, near the Lollies N Stuff shop, two walls which face onto the laneway are also being painted, with the mural ‘spilling’ down onto the pavement between the walls for a spectacular effect.

The murals project is being overseen by Council’s Town Centres Masterplan Working Group, with advice and input provided by a Murals Committee. The murals project is about raising the pro file of Windsor and celebrating the local identity of the area. The project also aims to educate visitors about the values and history of Windsor, while reflecting the community’s exciting future.

It is hoped that the murals will set a precedent for public art in Windsor and help to support potential mural festivals and related art programming in future.
