Timing it right

Despite the uncertainty that 2020 brought with it, it hasn’t put all plans on hold with many retirees choosing to move forward and downsize from the family home to a retirement village.

Westmead’s newest retirement community opened its doors to its first residents in October and since then many of the new residents have been settling into their new home and enjoying what village life has to offer. For Barbara and Warwick who are eagerly anticipating their move this month, there were several deciding factors as to why they chose to take the leap now rather than later. “It’s what we needed to do for health reasons, it’s time,” said Warwick.

Barbara adds the location was a big factor in their final choice. “It is perfect, it’s across the road from Parramatta Park which we’re very familiar with, and having grandchildren it’s an ideal spot to be for us,” said Barbara. ”Having a coffee shop there on site… well, that’s a plus.”

Uniting Westmead independent living residents have a range of services at their fingertips including a café, specialised seniors gym and assisted living services providing meals, cleaning and care if needed.
