Nominations open for Western Sydney Airport forum

Hawkesbury City Council has received advice that the Australian Government is now calling for nominations from the community to be a part of the Community Forum on Western Sydney Airport, by Tuesday, 24 January 2017.

The Australian Government is responsible for delivering the airspace and flight path design for the Stage 1 development (a single runway) for the Western Sydney Airport. The Community Forum will be a first step in involving the Western Sydney community in this complex process and will take several years to complete.

The establishment of the Community Forum is a key condition in the Western Sydney Airport Plan. Its function will be to promote informed and responsive engagement between the community and representatives of an Expert Steering Group to be led by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The Forum will provide the opportunity for community members and organisations to raise issues and express opinions regarding the planning and development of the Western Sydney Airport.

Community representatives for the Community Forum are being sought now and anyone with experience or a suitable background that would contribute to the work of the Forum are encouraged to nominate their interest by emailing [email protected], by Tuesday, 24 January 2017.

The Community Forum will consist of an independent chair and members from the community (up to eight) local government representatives (up to five), New South Wales Government representative (one), regional airport operator (one), general aviation user (one), major airlines (up to two), and representatives of a stakeholder agency or organisation, such as a tourism or business body (up to two).

Officers from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Airservices Australia and the airport operator (once appointed) will also be involved with Community Forum in an advisory capacity.
