New Year Baby – Meet Elias Hunter Vassallo

BY BEV JORDAN

The first baby of 2021 born at Norwest Private Hospital

The 3.42kg bundle of joy arrived a few weeks early much to the delight of proud parents, Marthese and Victor Vassallo from Kellyville.

The couple’s third child was due on January 16 but arrived at 1.38pm on January 2 … the hospital’s first 2021 arrival. His older brothers, Jake (10) and Lucas (7) are thrilled about being big brothers.

Marthese said: “They were so excited and super happy when Elias was born. They are so in awe of him and love having a baby brother. They love him to bits.”

She said being pregnant during the COVID restrictions was hard. “We’ve been extra careful and have not really gone anywhere since it all started. It’s been hard for the boys and unfortunately I attended many hospital visits on my own…apart from that we are blessed to have each other and all in good health.”

She said they chose to have Elias at Norwest Private because that is where his older brothers were born. “All the staff are just amazing,” she said.

“Even with the challenges that COVID-19 presented in 2020, over 1500 babies were born at Norwest Private last year,” said Michelle McKenzie, Women’s Health Services Manager at Norwest Private Hospital.

“Our midwives and nurses at Norwest Private Maternity are committed to providing the best possible experience for mothers and are always there to support them and their families.”
