MAKING THE RIGHT MOVE

It was after Greg and Jodie Burton moved Jodie’s mum to an Over 55s village that the idea of Serendipity Moves, which specialises in helping seniors and retirees move and downsize, was born.

“We realised that the service, support and compassion needed at this time wasn’t being provided by one business alone…the truck on moving day is just 10 per cent of the process,” said Greg.

Jodie’s mum made the decision to move because the stairs in her own home were becoming more difficult to negotiate.

“Mum was fortunate to have her family around, but we wondered what happened to people living alone, or with relatives living interstate or overseas,” said Jodie.

“We discovered that seniors were actually putting off relocating to more appropriate living because they couldn’t face the actual move … they were scared to move because they didn’t know how or where to start.”

The initial free one hour in-home meeting with a dedicated “move manager” is the first step.

“We’ll walk through your house and discuss your new home and what you’d like to take with you,” said Greg.

“When we have a full understanding of what you need, we will tailor a package for you – whether you need to take advantage of all our services or only a few.”

Services include sorting, packing, moving and settling in, right down to hanging pictures and making the bed.

As Jodie puts it: “We are part removalist, part project manager and part daughter.”
