Have your say on the Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan

The Hills Shire Council’s Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is now on public exhibition.

The Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan aims to provide Council with a well-informed strategic approach to supporting people with disability to participate more fully in community life and have positive experiences with Council facilities, products, services and information.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, said a strong emphasis was placed on consultation with people with disability in the development of the draft plan. “The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 mandates the need for councils to develop Disability Inclusion Action Plans specific to their Local Government Area” he said.

“In preparing our plan, a number of engagement activities were conducted during 2021, and we appreciate the high levels of involvement from people with disability and the groups representing them.

We want to continue to ensure our services are easily accessible, our community has the things people with disability need, and meaningful employment opportunities are encouraged. I urge residents to view the draft plan and have their say. Visit Council’s website www.thehills.nsw.gov.au and search for ‘Disability Inclusion Action Plan” he said.

The draft plan addresses key outcome areas of fostering positive community attitudes and behaviour, creating liveable communities, supporting access to meaningful employment and providing accessible systems and processes.

Submissions for The Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022/23 – 2025/26 close on 11 May 2022.
