Bushwalking and snakebites

With the hot summer weather upon us, snakes are out and about in the Hawkesbury region. Summer is also the time that many locals like to get out and explore our surrounding national parks and rivers.

The Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre is now stocking an excellent Snake Bite Kit by the Australian company Equip. This kit includes an emergency action card, two heavy compression bandages, two triangle bandages and detailed snake bite first aid instructions. These instructions are used in wilderness first aid courses throughout Australia.

This compact kit is a sensible choice for anybody heading outdoors to enjoy the holidays.

For the month of December the Visitor Information Centre is offering the Snake Bite Kit and the best-selling booklet Best Bushwalks in the Hawkesbury for only $22. This is a special 15% discount, valid until the end of 2016. We’d like to encourage people to be prepared when going outdoors or heading out on their next camping trip.

To buy the Snake Bite Kit and booklet drop into the Visitor Information Centre, open seven days at Ham Common (opposite the RAAF base), 328 Hawkesbury Valley Way, Richmond, or call 4560 4620 for more information.

Remember, reptiles, and all Australian wildlife, are protected. To report injured or orphaned wildlife call the WIRES hotline on 1300 094 737. Visit https://www.wires.org.au to find out more about snakes and other wildlife.
