VALE LLOYD SMALE

A memorial service to remember community radio Alive 90.5 stalwart Lloyd Smale will be held at Castlebrook Memorial Park at Rouse Hill on Friday, October 4 at 1pm.

The man with the velvet voice lost his battle with cancer on September 23. His friend and fellow announcer on Alive 90.5 “Happy” JaclK Bylsma said he discovered Lloyd’s wonderful radio voice when the Hills resident arrived at the Baulkham Hills studios in early 2013 during a time when Happy Jack broadcast the Monday Morning Magazine show.

Jack said: “He had an excellent voice for radio and proved to be a fast learner and soon participated more actively in my program by reading weather reports and traffic.”

Lloyd became a regular on-air partner to Peter King (PK) and when PK left the station, Lloyd took over the breakfast shift and injected his own personality into the program.

“He came to the assistance of the station quite often when other presenters were unable to host their programs,” said Happy Jack.

After station manager, Jeff Ruitenbach passed away, Lloyd took on that role while continuing with his on air activities.

“He worked tirelessly to assist in the development professional standards amongst our presenters and also served a term as chairman of ALIVE 90.5.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lloyd’s wife, Noela, and his extended family on the loss of a true gentleman. He will be sadly missed by us all. “
