Year of the Monkey welcomes biggest Lunar celebration yet

Lunar celebrations for the Year of the Monkey at North Rocks Park promise to be bigger than ever before, with an array of colourful cultural activities and displays on offer for Hills locals and visitors.

One of the most popular events on the Hills Shire calendar, the Sydney Hills Lunar Festival celebrates Asian culture in the Hills featuring performances and demonstrations from local multicultural groups.

The Festival is the product of council and community collaboration. Run by the Hills Shire Council the festival is supported by local community partners; The Hills Chinese School, Hills Chinese Association, Hills Chinese Women’s Association and the Cherrybrook Chinese Community Association and is designed to celebrate cultural diversity.

The Sydney Hills Lunar Festival first ran in 2014 when the Hills Shire Council identified an opportunity to hold a Lunar event to celebrate Asian culture in the Hills. The first Lunar event was attending by 1000 people and has grown exponentially since its inception.

This year it is expected that the event will welcome more patrons than ever before, offering activities and displays for everyone to enjoy.

For the kids there’ll be heaps of free activities to enjoy from face painting, to balloon twisting, craft workshops, Lunar story times at the pop-up library, Lunar photo booth and colourful Lunar displays including the traditional Lion Dance and God of Fortune handing out lucky red envelopes.

Foodies won’t be able to get enough of the delicious Asian cuisine on offer including offerings from Sydney Food Trucks: Mama Lihn’s, Agape, Let’s do Yum Cha, Eat Art Truck and Tsuru as well as fabulous cooking demonstrations and fruit carving displays.

The whole family will enjoy the traditional art, music and dance displays, pop-up flower stall, amusement rides, stilt walkers and spectacular fireworks display that will conclude the day’s celebrations.

Join the fun and fanfare at the Sydney Hills biggest and brightest Lunar celebration, the Sydney Hills Lunar Festival, on 13 February 3-9pm at North Rocks Park and Don Moore Community Centre Carlingford. For more information
