Castlewood Community Reserve is in the middle of a major upgrade.
Lights have been installed, the field is being reconstructed with an irrigation and drainage upgrade and a picnic shelter with accessible seating is being installed.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne visited the park with members of the Baulkham Hills Brumbies Rugby League Club on a very wet Friday afternoon.
“As we’ve seen this week, the rain can come very thick and fast in Sydney and there is no feeling more crushing on aSaturday morning than finding out footy is off because the field is too wet,” Mayor Byrne said.
“This major upgrade will mean the chances of that happening here at Castlewood have been significantly decreased.”
“A quick trawl of various Council websites throughout winter will show that The Hills is far less likely to close sportsgrounds than our neighbours, and in large part that is due to the drainage systems we have on many of our fields.”
Mayor Byrne said the installation of lights would give the team the opportunity to train at night.
“This field is now equipped for players to come and train at night throughout the week, giving more youngsters the chance to hone their skills and live a fit and healthy lifestyle.”
Brumbies club President Brad Curl said the upgrade was a big win for the club.
“The upgrade of the field is a fantastic result for us because it finally gives us a more permanent home to train and play. We’re also happy that the better drainage system will give the kids a higher chance of playing every weekend,” Mr Curl said.
