Singer Christine Leaves is hoping her Inspired Tour will do just that, inspire and reignite people’s love of Christian music.
The Castle Hill resident will be launching the tour at Dural Country Club on Sunday, September 15 and then plans to hit the road with a series of concerts in regional centres. Funds raised will support Aussie Drought Relief and Homelessness Housing.
Christine was the driving force behind the very successful Christian Rock Eisteddfod which ran for 10 years, bringing schools from across NSW to perform at The Hills Centre.
“If you give kids opportunities they never cease to amaze you,” she says. “We had about 1000 kids on stage during each show.”
The shows ran until 2008. Music has always been a huge part of her life. She remembers gathering up children and performing shows at the All Saints church hall in Parramatta as a 13-year-old.
At 15 she was attending drama classes at The Independent Theatre in North Sydney alongside Jacki Weaver. As a teenager she left home and moved to Perth where she stayed for eight years, working in the accounts department of a local hospital during the day and singing in the evening with bands including The Surveyors and Beaten Brass.
She moved back to Sydney to try and reunite with her family after a breast cancer scare. It was while at Carlingford Baptist Church that her love of popular Christian music developed. “We took the Carlingford Baptist choir to The Philippines and it was so amazing.”
She was invited back for a return solo tour in the 80s which was followed by a tour in Hong Kong.
“They loved my story telling through singing this Christian Music.”
She didn’t plan to return to singing professional herself all these years later but just loves the words of the Christian songs by the likes of Sandi Patti,BJ Thomas, Amy Grant, Joyce Landorf and Tom Netherton.
“It’s not about me singing, it’s about inspiring others to get out there and fill the air with good Christian music,” she said.
