Synthetic fields are set to take shape at Bernie Mullane Reserve

The completion of The Hills Shire’s first two synthetic playing fields means residents are now a step closer to having all weather playing options.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane said the sports field construction company, Turf One Pty Ltd, will now have the important job of upgrading Fields 1 and 2 as part of the Bernie Mullane Master Plan.

“This upgrade is a real game-changer to future-proof Bernie Mullane Reserve for years to come,” Mayor Keane said.

“We are responding to ongoing challenges including increases in sports participation, a growing local population, and demand for space by more and more sports resulting in our existing fields being at capacity. On top of this, we’ve calculated that Fields 1 and 2 are used 40-50 hours per week, well above the recommended 20-30 hours per week usage for natural turf fields.

“Once the sportsgrounds are converted to a synthetic surface, there will be extended access for sports in all weather.

“After three years of working behind-the-scenes on this project, I am super excited to see these upgrades finally come to fruition,” Mayor Keane added.

To add to the field upgrades, the installation of training floodlights at Castle Glen Reserve has been approved and will provide new opportunities for existing users of Castle Glen Reserve and future use during winter for football.
