Swimming For Life

It has never been more important than ever to get back into swimming lessons.

With a hot summer approaching and swim schools around NSW being shut down for four months, thousands of children have been unable to develop the valuable water safety skills that protect them from drowning.

Last year after a shorter lockdown there was a 108 per cent increase in drownings in 0-4-year-olds with 25 infants tragically losing their lives.

This year with a shorter window for children to reacquaint themselves with their swimming and water safety skills, getting kids in the water as early as possible is vital.

General Manager of Castle Hill Fitness and Aquatic Centre, Brett Andrews, was thrilled with the announcement that swimming lessons could resume programs from October 11.

“It gives all the kids who have been out of the water since June a chance to refamiliarize themselves with the skills they had previously learnt and build on those skills in time for swimming in pools, beaches and waterways over Summer.”

In further good news, earlier this year the NSW Government announced that in addition to the Active Kids vouchers, that there will be a new $100 Voucher for pre-school aged children to access learn to swim and water safety programs.

“Getting children in the water at an early age is so important. It not only starts that learning process, it also helps them to feel more comfortable in the water so should they find themselves in a difficult situation, but they are also less likely to panic, ” Mr Andrews said.

Castle Hill Fitness and Aquatic Centre offers programs seven days a week for infants through to adults. Their COVID Safe Plan means there is a limit on the number of patrons in the centre at any time and they have a thorough cleaning and check-in procedures in place.

“We also have a team of professionally trained operators to maintain the water quality to the highest standard and we know that our water treatment is such that it will kill off infections including COVID,” he said.
