ROYAL HONOURS

PROFESSOR SIMON FINFER AO, Galston has a front line role in Australia’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic as he leads a team trialling treatments for COVID-19.

Prof Finfer (pictured) is a Professional Fellow in the Critical Care and Trauma Division at The George Institute for Global Health and is Director of Intensive Care at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and Senior Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital since 1993.

His work was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours with his appointment as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) For distinguished service to intensive care medicine, to medical research and education, and to global health institutes.

Amongst his many roles he is an executive board member of the Global Sepsis Alliance, is director of the Australian Sepsis Network and is former chair of the International Sepsis Forum.

Dr Bruce HARRIS AM from Cherrybrook was honoured with an AM for significant service to higher education, to veterans, and to the community.

He Retired from Macquarie University in 1986 and was former Dean of School of Historical, Philosophical and Political Studies (1979 to 1984.) started the first numismatic collection at the university.

Dr Harris was a Board Member of Robert Menzies College and a Member of the New Universities Council in the 70s and 80s and helped craft the Ancient History syllabus.

He has been Patron of New Zealand Veterans in Australia since 2010 and ia author and editor of numerous publications.

MS ROSEMARY SMITHSON AM (pictured) was awarded an AM for significant service to youth, who are homeless, through charitable initiatives.

A volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Australia and with Giant Steps Australia she was also a volunteer at the Sydney Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2000.

Ms Smithson was CEO of the Property Industry Foundation from 2001 to 2018 and is involved in Engagement Program Development at The Ethics Centre.
