RIVERSIDE ADVENTURE

Residents of Riverside Gardens enjoyed a great day aboard the Riverboat Postman on the Hawkesbury River, travelling to Brooklyn by coach. With Anzac biscuits for morning tea and a generous ploughman’s lunch midday they were well and truly looked after.

The weather was lovely with a light wind. It was a great opportunity for many of them to get together with their neighbours, enjoy the ride and each other’s company.

The Riverboat postman started delivering mail in 1910 and has continued to do so, delivering to the settlements of Dangar and Milson Islands, Kangaroo Point, Bar Point, Marlow Creek, Fisherman’s Point and Milson’s Passage.

It was fun to greet local residents waiting on their jetties to receive their mail, some even bringing the family pet to say hello.

For 93-year-old Betty Pitt, a resident at Riverside Gardens since 2011, it was a wonderful day to spend with neighbours and friends.

“The day on the river was good for the soul,” she said.
