Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane is inviting children of all ages to celebrate their mum or a maternal figure in their lives by planting a native plant in their honour.
Mayor Keane said The Hills Shire Council’s Plants for Mum event is a wonderful initiative that allows residents to plant a native plant with their mother, grandmother or guardian, or in their memory at Heritage Park on Sunday 21 May.
“This is a great opportunity to come along and plant a commemorative plant with your mother or pay tribute to her memory in a beautiful park that you can visit with your family for years to come,” Mayor Keane said.
“Not only will participants have the opportunity to plant a growing legacy for their mother, they will continue to enrich one of The Hills’ favourite parks,” Mayor Keane added.
To add to the day’s events, there will be a barbecue breakfast and attendees can explore the historical public space, which is one of the earliest Government Farm sites in Australia.
Plants for Mum is a free event and is open to all residents from 9am to 11am.
Equipment is supplied on the day. However, participants are encouraged to wear trousers, a hat, long-sleeve shirt and closed-in shoes.
Bookings are essential and need to be made before May 19.
