Sydney Water is providing land to The Hills Shire Council to allow the construction of new sporting fields in Beaumont Hills.
Local Member Ray Williams turned the first sod on the project today, with The Hills Shire Mayor, Councillor Yvonne Keane and Property Portfolio Manager at Sydney Water, Grant May.
“The provision of land around Caddies and Strangers Creeks by Sydney Water to the Council will allow construction of extra sporting facilities along with an extensive network of cycleways and footpaths. The project will also protect and improve bushland on the site,” Member for Castle Hill, Ray Williams, said.
The Hills Shire Council and Sydney Water have entered into a long-term lease for the site which will allow construction to now commence.
“We are pleased to be partnering with The Hills Shire Council to enable some exciting recreational opportunities for local residents,” Grant May at Sydney Water said.
“While accommodating these new facilities the project also reflects Sydney Water’s core responsibilities to protect people and property from flooding and to protect and improve the health of our local waterways,” Mr May added.
The project will see the construction of two football fields, which will be used as a cricket oval during summer, a stand-alone football field and a baseball diamond. All fields will have their own associated amenities with provision for parking.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane said Council is striving to provide the best balance of natural values and recreational amenity that will ultimately maximise the livability of the local area.
“Hills residents cherish our wonderful parks and open spaces, and we enjoy extremely high participation rates across an array of sports. We are very aware of just how special and important recreational facilities are to our local area,” Mayor Keane said.
“I am delighted that these new playing fields at Caddies Creek Reserve will help to fulfil our need for more active recreational facilities. And it is wonderful that we can breathe life into this much-needed new facility, whilst also maintaining healthy water quality, flood mitigation and the ecological values of which the site was originally acquired for by Sydney Water.
“Council is proud to work in an innovative partnership with Sydney Water to provide more open space. Caddies Creek Reserve will allow us to accommodate a growing array of sporting uses for residents, and visitors alike, to enjoy. These new playing fields are a direct result of the community and two tiers of government (local and state) working together hand-in-hand to open up more sportsgrounds.
“This long-term agreement will ensure that our green spaces continue to thrive and will support our growing community for years to come,” Mayor Keane added.
