New Australians Make It Official

108 Hills residents are now officially Australian after becoming citizens at a Council ceremony on Monday evening.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne was joined by Castle Hill MP Ray Williams and fellow Hills Shire Councillors to welcome the citizens as Australians.

Mayor Byrne said the ceremonies were always inspiring.

“It’s lovely to see so many Hills residents wanting to become citizens of our great country,” Mayor Byrne said.

“I’m proud of the fact that we live in a nation and a Shire that people strive to live in.”

“Some of us were lucky enough to be born here, others had to work hard for it. I welcome them as Australians.”

“Among the several nationalities represented on the night – including Afghans, Chinese, Pakistanis, Ugandans, Venezuelans and Malaysians to name a few – were the Wright family formerly of Merseyside, England.”

The Wrights (pictured) moved to Australia in 2009 and fell in love with the weather, going to the beach and bushwalking in the Blue Mountains.
