NAIDOC WEEK

VOICE, TREATY TRUTH. Let’s Work Together was the theme of this year’s NAIDOC week.

The annual event on the first week of July celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Around 300 people attended the NAIDOC week family fun day at Balcombe Heights estate last week which was organised by Hills Community Aid.

Aboriginal elder Uncle Lex led the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony before the festivities. Constable Ethan West and Senior Constable Alison Brown helped raised the flags. As well as traditional story telling and art there was a climbing wall and face painting and other activities.

Mici Beer, Executive Officer for HCA said it had been a great success.

“The general feedback from children was ‘that was excellent’.
