If you’re worried about those overdue library books stashed underneath your bed or hiding in your bookcase, relief is at hand.
Bring your overdue items back and The Hills Shire Libraries will waive late fees from November 21 to December 18 in exchange for one of the following – back to school supplies, personal care items, baby products or outdoor toys.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane, said the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Library Fine Amnesty would see both Council and library users get into the spirit of Christmas.
“This fantastic initiative benefits all library users by helping Council to put unreturned books back on the shelves so everyone in our community can enjoy them,” Mayor Keane said.
“In addition, essential products donated to the appeal will make a big difference to people who are doing it tough this Christmas.
“Donations can be made at either Vinegar Hill, Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill and Dural libraries during this time, even if residents don’t have overdue items to return or overdue fees to clear.”
Last year 106 boxes containing 2069 items of food were delivered to needy families in the wider Sydney community.
In 2016, donations will be made to three local charities including Foster Care Angels, The Sanctuary and Lisa Harnum Foundation.
Mayor Keane said she hoped residents would continue to dig deep.
“We’ve had a spectacular response to Library Fine Amnesty over the years and I think it’s a great way for both Council and the community to show their generous side, especially during the festive season,” Mayor Keane said.
“These incredible charities do so much for those who need it the most.
“So let’s dig deep. Return your books and make a real difference in the lives of others at the same time,” Mayor Keane added.
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Library Fine Amnesty applies only to outstanding fees, not the replacement cost of lost items.
A list of acceptable donation items can be found at your local library.
Only new and unused donations will be accepted.
