LIBRARY AMNESTY RETURNS

Library fines will be waived at Hills Shire Libraries until December 15 in exchange for non-perishable food items to be donated to Anglicare.

Last year, approximately 1950 items were donated and over 600 overdue items were returned to Council’s libraries, including a book which was due back in 2012.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said the Mayoral Library Fine Amnesty initiative would support those who need it the most.

“Food donated to the Mayor’s Library Fine Amnesty will go to the Anglicare Pantry Van which provides grocery items at a very low cost to help those in need stretch the budget further.

“The Mobile Community Pantry is run in partnership with the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Baulkham Hills and happens on a fortnightly basis.

“It is also a great opportunity to return books back to our library shelves so everyone can enjoy them. I encourage everyone to give generously to this worthy cause this Christmas even if you don’t have a late library book to return,” she said.

A list of acceptable non-perishable food items can be found at your local library branch or on The Hills Shire Council’s website. www. thehills.nsw.gov.au/Home
