KEVIN’S SNAPPY PHOTO EXHIBITION

An array of beautifully framed photos adorned the walls of the Waaia Cafe Dural for Kevin Kendall’s first photographic exhibition.

The cafe, which is in the grounds of Warrah, was packed for the special event to mark International Day of People with Disability. Kevin was just 11 when he came to live at Warrah when it first opened 50 years ago.

The photographic exhibition of his floral pictures was the result of a community photography course Kevin took which was organised by Hills Shire Council.

He loved the course and since then, armed with an iPad, Kevin has been taking photographs around the extensive grounds at Warrah Dural.

His sister Bev Osborne said she was very proud of what her brother had achieved. “I was very surprised. I had no idea that he had this interest and was talented. They are beautiful. He has chosen one to give mum.”

Thought the NDIS, Kevin has been working with his one-to-one carer Radika Muraliatharan.

“I am a florist, so my whole life is working with and enjoying flowers,” she said. We really enjoy (out outings). It brings him great happiness. We walk every day around Warrah. There are beautiful flowers.”

Lisa Rutkin, Warrah’s community support services co-ordinator, praised the courses run by Hills Shire Council. “Council runs so many great courses. It’s a beautiful opportunity for inclusion It’s given Kevin a great opportunity.”

“It’s pushing barriers for him getting to places to get his photos printed and getting somewhere to choose the frames.”
