I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Hills residents, business people and community figures who participated in the 2016 Hills Winter Sleep Out.
It was a bitterly cold night on Castle Hill Main Street, particularly at 3am when the temperature plummeted, but I’m not complaining because we are the lucky ones who only had to endure one night out exposed to the elements.
More than $61,000 was raised to be donated to four excellent charity organisations – Hills Community Aid, Community Foundation of Northwest Sydney, the Lisa Harnum Foundation and Give n Take.
Apart from the money and awareness we raised for the issue of homelessness, I was so impressed by the way our community members enthusiastically embraced this initiative for the third year running.
Despite the testing conditions, the Sleep Out provided me with an opportunity to learn so much about our residents and I’d like to thank those who attended and made the night all the more bearable.
I look forward to the Sleep Out returning in 2017.
