Hills Set To Burn

The recent weather has been a wakeup call to Hills residents, with hot dry gusty winds and 40°C days, generating perfect conditions for bushfires to quickly establish. Local company Australian Pump is urging home owners to take action now to prepare their properties and bushfire survival plans.

Aussie Pumps has a free Bushfire Survival Guide to assist with preparation and planning. It also covers setting up a fire pump for property protection. Even if you plan to leave early it makes sense to prepare your home in case roads are closed.

“If you have a source of water like a tank, dam or pool, then a fire pump will enable you to dampen down your garden, fill your gutters and put out spot fires from ember attacks even if power has been cut,” said Aussie Pumps’ Brad Farrugia.

“Beware of fire pumps being sold at inflated prices. When choosing a pump make sure you’re paying a fair price, that the pump has the required performance and has built in features that add longevity and reliability. Not all Honda powered fire pumps are the same!” he said.

Aussie Pumps has a number of Rural stores set up to assist including Ace Ohlsson in McGarths Hill, Hills Irrigation in Castle Hill and Dick Petrikas in Tennyson.
