Drop off your electronic waste for FREE in May

Just a reminder that Hawkesbury City Council’s next free e-waste recycling event will be held on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 May 2016 at Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon from 9am to 4pm each day.

This event will be run as part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, which aims to lift television and computer recycling from its current low rate to 80% by 2021.

Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Kim Ford is pleased Council is able to offer this event.

“There has never been a better time to safely dispose of your unwanted TVs, computers and IT accessories” said the Mayor.

“This free collection event will ensure a responsible recycling approach and keep valuable materials out of landfill, as well as chemicals used in the products, such as lead, cadmium and arsenic,” he added.

Some important points:
– It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure all data is erased from their devices before being handed over for recycling

Items that will be accepted for recycling:
Computers, Monitors, Notebooks, Printers, Fax machines, Scanners, CD drives, Hard drives, TVs, VCR players, DVD players, Projectors, Networking equipment, Cables, Keyboards, Mice, Floppy discs, Printer cartridges, Electronic games/toys, Stereos, Cameras, Video cameras, IPods, MP3 players.

Items that will not be accepted for recycling:
Microwaves, Whitegoods, Small appliances, Vacuum cleaners, Power tools, Non-computer batteries. These items can be taken to Hawkesbury City Council Waste Management Facility, at The Driftway, South Windsor. A charge will apply, except for the disposal of household and car batteries.

E-waste will be accepted from all those who attend, you do not need to be a local resident of the Hawkesbury to drop off your e-waste at the event.
