CLEAN HANDS WITH ROTARY

When shelves everywhere were devoid of hand sanitiser at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rotary Club of Norwest Sunrise placed an order for 500 bottles.

This week club President Alex Hezari donated 320 bottles to Hills Shire Council to be delivered to Hills Meals on Wheels recipients considered in greatest need.

The service club will also be donating bottles to Warrah for its home care service recipients and to Hills Community Aid for its Hills CarPal volunteer drivers.

Mr Hezari said: “As a service club we were looking for a way of helping our community during this pandemic. We thought providing hand sanitiser would be a practical project that we could manage through the COVID-19 restriction period.

“It is wonderful to have the opportunity to collaborate with Hills Shire Council to ensure that we can help some of the more vulnerable residents in our community through meals on wheels. “

The generous gift was received by Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne on Wednesday.

“I’d really like to thank Norwest Rotary for looking after our Meals on Wheels clients.

“The majority of clients are aged 70 years and older which places them in the ‘at risk’ category for serious illness if they catch COVID-19.

“There is still no cure or vaccine available, so it’s important to do everything we can to protect ourselves and our most vulnerable.”

“Making hand sanitiser available to our elderly residents will help to safeguard them Mayor Michelle Byrne with Norwest Sunrise Rotary president Alex Hezari from this infectious disease, especially at a time when they may struggle to get to the shops as they continue to practice self isolation,” she said.

The hand sanitiser for Warrah, which provides tailored services to people living with a disability, and to Hills Community Aid will be delivered next week.

Members of The Rotary Club of Norwest Sunrise meet on Thursday mornings at 7.15am.

Anyone is welcome. At the moment meetings are online. To find out more visit the club’s webpage norwestrotary.org.au or follow the Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club Facebook page.
