Christmas: A Time For Hope And Love

2020 has been a year that none of us will forget. After fires, flood and drought, our country was hit by COVID-19 and the impact to our way of life was significant.

Christmas is a time when we come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. a wonderful opportunity for families, friends and neighbours to come together and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and Australia’s Christian heritage. Christmas is a time to be grateful for the blessings of peace and prosperity we enjoy as a nation.

In this unprecedented year we say thank you to all Australians for the perseverance, sacrifice and good spirit they have shown to get our country through in better shape than almost everywhere else. It is more important than ever to celebrate the hope of Jesus Christ.

Finally, on behalf of my family, Amelia, Jack, Lachlan, Thomas, Jonathan and I would like to wish you and your family a happy and holy Christmas, and a safe and prosperous New Year.

Volunteers are an integral part of our society, especially during difficult times. On December 5 we marked International Volunteer Day and celebrated the contribution of charity and community groups across Mitchell as they continue to support the vulnerable and strengthen our community.

The 2020-21 Volunteer Grants round is expected to open mid-2021. Grants are between $1,000 and $5,000 and will enable local organisations to better support their volunteers to purchase small equipment, pay fuel, transport and training costs.
