Cherrybrook Man Arrested Over Magic Mushrooms

A Cherrybrook man has been charged after a large-scale seizure of $700,000 worth of magic mushrooms in Greystanes earlier this month.

Police investigators arrested the 26-yearold man at Kellyville around 10am on Wednesday, February 24.

He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station and charged with manufacture prohibited drug, (large commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), organises/conducts/assists drug premises, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

In January 2021, detectives attached to Cumberland Police Area Command established Strike Force Bagster to investigate the suspected manufacture of illicit drugs in the Greystanes area. As part of inquiries, Strike Force investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Merrylands Road, Greystanes, on Wednesday, February 3.

At the premises, officers located an active clandestine laboratory used to manufacture psilocybin. With the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Chemical Operations Unit, a total of 46.3kg of psilocybin, with an estimated street value of nearly $700,000, was seized. A 26-year-old man has been charged and remains before the courts. Psilocybin is considered one of the most well-known psychedelics.
