CARE PACKAGES

Hundreds of festive care packages posted in the Hills are heading to Australian troops overseas thanks to local school students and residents.

This year more than 250 packages were posted free of charge through Kellyville and Stanhope Gardens post offices as part of the Support to the Troops initiative.

Hills Shire Councillor Frank De Masi has been promoting the Australia Post initiative for the past six years at his two branches.

“Momentum has grown since I started promoting it through social media. Last year approximately 120 were sent out. This year it is approximately 250.”

He said the boxes were filled with non-perishable items with, not surprisingly, snack, lollies, biscuits and off course Vegemite the top picks.

This year they included 100 boxes put together by students at Riverbank Public School at The Ponds.

Clr De Masi said he had received several thank you letters from appreciative troops. (see photo)

While the posting day for packages is over Defence is encouraging people to send emails of support to [email protected]
