BLANKETS AND BEANIES 2020

A big thank you to readers from Soroptimist International of The Hills for the very generous donations we received for this, our first Blankets and Beanies Drive.

Rouse Hill High Collection Beanies And Blankets Blankets And Beanies 2020With winter upon us we set a very short time frame of a month for collections so that we could get the much-needed winter warmers to those in need as soon as possible.

Facebook, personal contacts, word of mouth, schools, Church and the Hills to Hawkesbury Community News – we targeted as many people as we could.

Rotary Nomads Beanies Blankets And Beanies 2020Blankets and beanies, scarves, gloves, socks and clothing kept coming from individuals, women’s groups, and schools.

Special mention needs to be made of the students from Rouse Hills High School and the Australian International Academy, Kellyville for their outstanding efforts. In two weeks they collected 85 blankets, 115 beanies, 162 pairs socks, 22 pairs gloves, some scarves and clothing.

Beanies From Hills To Hawkesbury Blankets And Beanies 2020We lost count of the total numbers, however we have photos of over 100 beautiful hand made beanies, several knitted blankets, scarves and jumpers that have been made by women of our district.

A generous donation allowed us to purchase men’s clothing, shoes, and towels. Parramatta Mission, StreetMed Parramatta and Hawkesbury Helping Hands were the main recipients, with beanies and socks going to SI Hornsby for distribution through their contacts, and one of our members who lives near Maitland took some for use at two Women’s Refuges in that region.

We plan to do this again next year, so keep a watch for advertising early in 2021. It may be bigger and better! Thank you again. Lesley Lawson and Jan Mullan Members of the Soroptimist International of The Hills (SI The Hills)
