AWARENESS WORKSHOP

Students from the Australian International Academy school at Kellyville have undertaken a disability awareness workshop and work readiness presentation.

SSI Ability Links NSW, in collaboration with the TAFE and Hireup organised the workshops which were held at the school on Monday, June 17.

Workshop activities highlighted the value of celebrating diversity and inclusion.

TAFE delivered an educational session which was followed up with interactive group activities designed to increase awareness and break down stereotypes about disability.

Hireup also delivered a presentation on work opportunities within the disability sector.

Sonal Chatrath from Ability Links said: “Students gained knowledge on different types of disability and took home the message that the person comes first, not their disability.

“SSI Ability Links hopes that the effects of this initiative transcend the school gates by playing an instrumental role in facilitating attitudinal changes in young people to help make their school as well as the broader community more inclusive.”
