The Hills Artisans Craft Market
The Hills Artisans Craft Market supports Australian artisans who design their own craft, creating an authentic Australian Arts & Crafts Market. No imports, no bric-a-brac.
Lynne Higgs is one of those artisans. From a young age, Lynne Higgs has dabbled in nearly every artistic medium imaginable, from acrylics, watercolours, oils, pastels, printmaking, inks and anything she could lay her hands on.
Over the years, she has accumulated a diverse and extensive body of work and rather than let it gather dust in her spare room, she has decided it’s time to share her creations and is now found at the Hills Artisans Craft Market.
Her artistic journey has been rich and varied, beginning with a Diploma of Visual Arts at the Northbridge College of Arts in Sydney, a Fine Arts and Visual Culture Degree and culminating in a Master of Teaching (Secondary) in Visual Arts. She now works as a full time Visual Arts teacher at an all-boys high school.
Her subject matter is varied and plentiful but lately, she has been captivated by the ethereal beauty of sunrises and sunsets, and paints them using a combination of acrylics, watercolours and oils. The vibrant colours and intricate forms of coral reefs have also sparked her imagination, leading to the exploration of new techniques and mediums to depict their underwater wonder.
Her creative process is straightforward yet deeply personal. She often starts by capturing scenes with her camera, translating them onto canvas or paper with her own unique touch. Sometimes, online images inspire her to recreate their atmosphere or mood in her own style. Lynne says she hopes to inspire others to pause, breathe, and appreciate the breathtaking beauty of our world.
The Hills Artisans Craft Market is a regular arts and crafts market held on the 2nd Saturday of every month at the Castle Hill Showgrounds (enter via Carrington Rd) 8am to 1pm. The market runs in conjunction with the Hawkesbury Harvest Farmers & Fine Food Market Castle Hill. Entry is free with ample parking!
