The Hawkesbury Regional Museum and Regional Gallery has been nominated at the IMAGinE Awards 2023.

The Museum has been nominated for its Engagement Program, “Bangadyi Nawi Making a Canoe.” The establishment has already received two awards from IMAGinE, one in 2011 for Collection Management and another in 2015 for Best Exhibition (Exhibition Projects – Museums; 3 – 10 Paid Staff).

The latter was nominated due to its 2022 exhibition “Dyarubbin,” which was on public display from 29 October 2022 until 5 February 2023. The Gallery belonged under the Galleries ‘Small and Volunteer’ category, with five or fewer paid staff.

The exhibition celebrated and acknowledged the rich millennia-long history of the Hawkesbury River, which also means Dyarubbin, to the Dharug people using art, oral histories, and the Dharug language.

An awards night is likely as the Museums & Galleries NSW plans to organise a physical ceremony on Wednesday, 29 November 2023, at the Sydney Modern, The Art Gallery of NSW.

The Hawkesbury Regional Museum is located at 8 Baker Street, while the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is at the Deerubbin Centre at 300 George Street, both of which are in Windsor.
