Flag Ceremony

By Don Tait
For the last 14 years, the Castle Hill RSL sub-Branch has been conducting an Australia Day Flag Ceremony in the veteran area at the Castlebrook Memorial Park supported by the Castlebrook Memorial Park Board and staff.

The 2022 ceremony commenced at 7am and involved a commemoration service, replacing the old Australian Flag with a new one and wreath-laying.

It was again supported by the 336 Australian Air Force Cadet Unit and the Castle Hill RSL Club Pipe Band.

As for the last 14 years, sub-Branch members were joined by members of our community including the Minster for Veterans, the Hon. David Elliott MP, the NSW Member for Baulkham Hills. Covid protocols were adhered to. Following the ceremony, 14 teams of sub-Branch members joined by community personnel placed approximately 1100 Australian flags on the graves and in the walls where veterans are entombed in the Park.

This is our way of remembering and honouring the veterans for their service to our nation. The Park is covered with Australian flags. Lest we Forget. After this activity, the Castlebrook staff provided breakfast for all attendees. An early rise breakfast and a coffee were much appreciated.

What a great activity on Australia Day!
