Your Sound-Your Community
“Your sound-your community” is the catch phrase of Alive 90.5 and as such we are here to serve the community. Over the 30 years the station has operated we have been involved in the community in many ways, especially assisting worthy causes.
One of the most significant ways we contribute is doing outside broadcasts (OBs), which can involve a whole day or just half a day where a group of volunteers take the necessary broadcasting equipment to the specific site and do continuous cross overs to the station, bringing the whole event alive with interesting interviews and how the day is progressing.
Recent OBs were held at the Hills Relay for Life and Supanova with their Supertee event. Supertee raises money to aid sick kids in hospital by providing them with super hero tee medical garments and encourages children to think positively about their recovery, aided by super powers from their tee shirts. The Supertee concept is based on the principles of Strength through Imagination.
Alive 90.5 has helped this organisation at various venues, with excellent results. The OBs also allow us recognition in the community as we often have free merchandise. Other OBs have taken place at school fetes, shopping centres, council events and local sports grounds.
The Sports team has evolved over the years, with more sophisticated technology allowing them to call local games with enthusiasm. The grounds they visit include home grounds for Wenty Magpies, Blacktown City and Hills United. Some of the games have been washed out but the boys always have stand by interviews with players and coaches.
OBs are preceded by community service announcements (CSAs) for several weeks so listeners know all the details for the location and date. CSAs are another way we assist the community. The Community Diary section of our website provides our community with the latest news and upcoming events taking place across Parramatta, Cumberland and The Hills.

Our criteria for events and news we will share is that it fits into one or more of the following criteria:
1. Be about Local People, Local Events, Local Places within Parramatta, Cumberland or The Hills Local Government Areas (LGAs)
2. Nationwide and/or State-wide news which has direct impact on listeners in the local area
3. News and events about Local Heroes and Local Champions
4. News about Local infrastructure
