Western Wildcats Encourage Girls and Boys to Try NETBALL
The Western Wildcats Netball Club are encouraging both girls and boys to try out netball as the sport continues to grow around the state. The Wildcats is the youngest club in the Hawkesbury and has experienced a lot of growth since they started three years ago.
As the Wildcats coach, treasurer, umpire and player, Charlene Hardiman has been very active in netball for many years, starting the game as a child. She, her sister Natalie Coyte (now the club president) and a few other netballers started the Wildcats to add extra competition to the already-established clubs and are delighted with how far they have grown in a few years.
“We are always looking for new players and always promoting the sport as kids are our next generation,” Charlene said. “We want them to enjoy this game just as much as we do. Boys are welcome and can play until they are 12 years.
“We try and promote netball in schools’ newsletters and have Come and Try Days for new players before they register.
“Netball has been in the Hawkesbury for many years and I have been playing this game since I was eight. It has grown big now and we get new members from word of mouth.”
The Windsor-based club’s Come and Try Clinic is on Sunday, February 9, at their Hawkesbury Netball Courts, Windsor from 9am-11.30am. To find out more, please email: [email protected].
Netball Australia is promoting their grassroots program across the state. A NA spokeswoman said that more than 50,000 boys and girls have participated over the past 17 years, this being their first taste of netball. This is a free opportunity for anyone interested in netball aged 5-10 to get a taste of the broader Woolworths NetSetGO program.
Taking place on Saturday, February 15, the free netball clinic gives children between 5 -10 years the opportunity to get down and have some fun before committing to the sport for a season.
