Waste 2 Art 2018 – REMINDER

Don’t forget to register to enter the 2018 ‘Waste 2 Art’ Competition, which closes on Friday, 6 July 2018 at 11:59pm. Artworks do not need to be submitted until Monday, 23 July 2018.

Hawkesbury City Council is running its successful ‘Waste 2 Art’ Competition for primary schools for the fifth year, as part of Local Government Week, which will be held in the Hawkesbury from Sunday, 29 July to Monday, 6 August 2018.

Waste 2 Art focuses on ‘reuse, reduce, recycle’, which are the 3Rs of the waste hierarchy, to specifically show how students can give waste a new purpose by transforming it into a creative artwork. Through Waste 2 Art, Council hopes to encourage students to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

Students are invited to create unique and individual artworks that are different to their classmates’ artworks. The artwork can be either 2D or 3D and must follow the competition guidelines in terms of size, etcetera, which can be found on Council’s website. They must be made entirely of used/recycled materials. The creative works will be exhibited throughout Local Government Week at the Hawkesbury Central Library, Windsor with a presentation of prizes at an opening night on Monday, 30 July at 6pm.

Students will be judged as per Stages 1, 2 and 3 (i.e. Stage 1 = Years K to 2, Stage 2 = Years 3 to 4, or Stage 3 = Years 5 to 6) and four prizes will be awarded per Stage:

• 1st prize – $200 gift voucher for art supplies

• 2nd Prize – $100 gift voucher for art supplies

• 3rd Prize – $50 gift voucher for art supplies

• Highly Commended – art hamper.

Primary school students must be registered to participate in the competition using the online registration form at https://www. hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/environment/waste-management/waste- 2-art/waste-2-art-competition

Registration is open to all primary school students that live in the Hawkesbury Local Government Area. Making a Waste 2 Art project can be a fun and enjoyable end of school term or school holiday activity. Please note that registrations are required by Friday, 6 July 2018, the last day of Term 2. No registrations can be accepted after this date. Actual art entries must be submitted by Monday, 23 July 2018.

All entrants will receive a certificate to recognise their efforts in creating their artwork and for their participation.

This is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded by the waste levy.
