Allan Beard was a storyteller, a farmer, a sportsman, a gardener, and above all, a devoted family man. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he shared, and the warmth he brought to those around him.

Born in Windsor and raised in Glossodia and Glenorie, Allan’s childhood was filled with adventure, mischief, and a deep love of sport. He played cricket for Glenorie and West Pennant Hills clubs and competed in tennis across various courts in the Hills District, at one stage maintaining the Glenorie courts and contributing to the local committee.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Allan left school at 14 to pursue farming. After his father’s passing when he was 17, he took on the responsibility of the family’s mortgage at Maroota, ensuring their stability while growing a diverse range of fruit and vegetables. In 1979, he returned to Glenorie, where his exceptional stone fruit became highly sought after, drawing customers from across Sydney.

Later, his love for gardening led him to bromeliads, earning him life membership in the Bromeliad Society of Australia and deep involvement in local gardening communities. His garden became more than a passion – it was his sanctuary, a place of creativity, solace, and pride.

Throughout his life, Allan’s generosity shone – whether supporting his wife Dorothy through illness, lending a hand to friends, or sharing knowledge with fellow gardeners and sports enthusiasts. His companionship with Trish and her family became an important source of joy, comfort, and connection in his later years.

A beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Allan cherished family gatherings, especially Christmas, filled with laughter and storytelling.
