Bromeliad Society of Australia

The next meeting of the Bromeliad Society of Australia will be on Saturday, 15 October at the Federation Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground, Showground Road, Castle Hill off Doran Drive.

Bromeliad sales to the public from 10am and the meeting commences at 12noon.

The BSA is pleased to announce that local bromeliad guru Allan Beard of Glenorie has agreed again to share his wealth of knowledge at this meeting.

Allan’s presentation will focus on the importance of the planting location of bromeliads when establishing a new garden. The varieties that will take full sun, others that prefer only morning sun and those that are most happy in shade.

Choosing the appropriate Bromeliad and a suitable pot to create a focal point in the garden and the importance of its final location. He will also share his preferred potting mixes for broms and his ingenious use of covered Hills Hoist clotheslines to hang many of his precious bromeliads.

Allan who is a life member of the BSA has been collecting hundreds of bromeliads for more than 30 years.

Anyone who has been fortunate to visit Allan’s property has witnessed the amazing magical bromeliad garden he has created with interest in every section of his garden, by using bromeliads of contrasting colours, sizes, textures and unusual markings, together with the occasional garden ornament, hanging baskets, tree stumps and branches adorned with air plants.

Members and guests are most welcome to attend this presentation that promises to be informative, especially for anyone seeking information regarding sun hardy bromeliads and their alternatives.

Normal meeting activities such as competitions, Raffle, Show & Tell, and a new activity called just “Show” for people who would just like to share a plant with others without it being critically judged or discussed.
