3000 Gritters To Show Off Their Mettle In The Hawkesbury
Get ready for energy-sapping, adrenalin-pumping action right in the Hawkesbury backyard when True Grit NSW returns on the weekend of March 1 and 2.
The organisers are expecting more than 3000 ‘Gritters’, including around 180 adventurous folks from The Hills and The Hawkesbury, to compete in a 10km course, with 30 plus obstacles or a 5km course, featuring over 15 obstacles.
One of the toughest obstacle course races in the country, originally designed by members of the Australian Special Forces, True Grit will be worked off at Dargle Farm, on the Hawkesbury River in Lower Portland.
“The Hawkesbury has been a wonderful and supportive region to our event for years,” said True Grit Managing Director Tom Gilmartin. “We have been working directly with local small businesses and bringing in local expertise to help put out spectacular events each and every year.
“We welcome everyone to our events, those just wanting to have a good time and try something new, all the way to high-performance athletes who want to compete against the very best.”
Courses are designed to test the mental resolve and stamina of competitors who will move through Hawkesbury’s grasslands, temperate rainforest, dense swamps, granite escarpments and towering sandstone cliffs.
According to True Grit marketing manager Nick Bensley, this event provides the perfect start to the year’s activities.
“We see people at different places on their fitness journey participate in our events,” he said. “In the past 12 months, we have seen a large number of gyms putting together teams to bring to our events.”
Age is no barrier with even an 88-year-old grandmother competing in the past, showing that the adventurous spirit lives strong regardless of our years.
“From sweeping grasslands to dense rainforest, muddy swamps to rugged cliffs, this course is built straight into the wild landscape,” the organisers said. “Expect heart-pounding action as you take on the toughest, muddiest, and most jaw-dropping obstacles we’ve ever created.
“It is the perfect mix of physical and mental challenge delivered through fun, fitness and friends to give racers of all ages and fitness levels a sense of achievement and accomplishment.”
