Thanks for getting to know Council at the Show!
Visitor numbers in the Hawkesbury boomed over the weekend with the 2017 annual Hawkesbury Show being one of the best ever shows held according to many locals.
The Hawkesbury Show was a great success with special events at the Show including woodchopping, art, crafts and agricultural exhibits, racing pigs, the Isuzu D-Max Precision Driving Team, horse events plus flyball dog demonstrations, unchained BMX performances and special guests including singing cowboys with the Animal Wranglers and the skilful trick rider Mikayla Jade.
Over 7,000 people visited Hawkesbury City Council’s display tent at this year’s Hawkesbury Show. Council’s display featured a theme of ‘Getting to Know Your Council’ as well as plenty of giveaways, information and a special recycling competition – lucky prize winners will be notified soon!
Staff on hand received many general enquiries about the Local Government Area as well as enquiries from people showing a keen interest in the flood maps on display. Everyone loved the free plants provided by the Hawkesbury Community Nursery with Bushcare staff on hand for advice on how to grow local plants and trees.
The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett attended the Show and was delighted to see so many people coming in to find out about Council.
Kids’ activities included a chance to play dress ups and role play as local road workers on the Council roller, badgemaking and a reading nook, while parents, grandparents and carers took a chance to relax and find out about their new Councillors and ‘who does what’. Visitors of all ages showed a keen interest in recycling, composting and road safety.
Council’s road safety display included a giant inflatable motorcycle which many people took to signing in order to ‘Take the Pledge’ for Fatality Free Friday, which will be held on Friday, 26 May 2017.
Since its inception in 2007, the Fatality Free Friday campaign has continued to expand its operation and is now recognised as Australia’s only national community based road safety program. Fatality Free Friday is a driver awareness program that aims to have zero deaths on that one day. Many drivers will have their headlights on 26 May as part of that days’ pledge to always be fit to drive, to stay focused on the road, to scan the road ahead, to keep a safe distance and to drive to suit the conditions.
