SAFETY IMPROVEMENT WORK ON THE OLD NORTHERN ROAD BETWEEN DURAL AND WISEMANS FERRY

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet has announced essential safety improvement work will be carried out later this month on the Old Northern Road between Dural and Wisemans Ferry.

Mr Perrottet said the NSW Government has allocated $432,000 to provide better advanced warning and greater guidance for motorists driving around bends.

“Work will be carried out at various locations on the Old Northern Road between Dural and Wisemans Ferry to improve safety for road users, particularly motorcyclists to reduce the occurrence and severity of crashes,” Mr Perrottet said.

“In the five years to June 2014, there were 30 crashes involving motorcyclists along this busy section of road.

“Work will involve replacing missing or damaged signs, replacing road marking and installing guardrails on existing safety barriers.”

Work is scheduled to be carried out from Monday 15 May to Friday 14 July on weekdays between 7am and 5pm, excluding public holidays and weather permitting.

“Work will be carried out on five shifts a week for around six weeks and every effort will be made to minimise the noise impact,” Mr Perrottet said.

For the safety of workers and motorists, traffic control and lane closures will be in place during work hours.

Motorists should plan their journey, drive to the conditions and follow the direction of all signs.

Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
