MP Set to Retire
State MP for Riverstone Kevin Conolly has announced that he will not be standing for the seat of Riverstone in the March 2023 State election.
The MP was first elected as the Liberal MP for Riverstone in 2011.
In a public statement he said: “It has been my honour and privilege to serve the people of Riverstone electorate as their elected representative during a period of immense change for the region. I have done my best to articulate their concerns, aspirations and values in Parliament, the party room and the public domain.”
A former Hawkesbury City Councillor and High School teacher, he encouraged young people to go into politics in his maiden speech to Parliament. One of his six children, Parick Conolly, is on Hawkesbury City council and has just stepped aside as Hawesbury Mayor.
Kevin Conolly noted several achievements during his term as Riverstone MP including:
• The transformation of Schofields Road and Richmond Road from old two lane country roads into major arterial thoroughfares, including an underpass beneath the Richmond rail line.
• The delivery of four new schools and the upgrading and expansion of several existing schools.
• The completion of t he North West Metro.
• The building of a brand new, enlarged police station at Riverstone
• The delivery of a 700 space commuter car park at Schofields station.
• The provision of water, sewerage, electricity and other infrastructure to support urban development in the North West Growth area
“I will continue to advocate for the people of the Riverstone electorate over the coming months to ensure that our ongoing commitments are delivered and that the needs of the people in this community remain my focus right through until the election in 2023,” he said.”This includes continuing to press for the raising of the wall of Warragamba dam at the earliest possible opportunity, as this is the one measure that can provide substantial flood mitigation benefit to the people of the Hawkesbury- Nepean region.”
