SACKVILLE FERRY TEMPORARY CLOSURE 4th – 11th Oct 2022

Repairs need to be carried out at the Sackville Ferry crossing which has sustained considerable flood damage.

The works include:
  • installing protective gables at the Maroota approach ramp
  • removing land-slipped soil
  • rebuilding the retaining timber wall
  • building a sandstone wall to retain disturbed soil
To allow workers to carry out these critical repairs, the Sackville Ferry service will be temporarily closed during the following times:
Tues, 4th Oct to Fri, 7th Oct – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sat, 8th Oct – 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Mon, 10th Oct and Tues, 11th Oct – 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Motorists crossing the river will need to take a detour to the north, which will add around 45 minutes to your trip, to access the Lower Portland Ferry.
Motorists on the western side of the river will need to detour via the West Portland Road and motorists on the eastern side will need to detour via River Road.
For more details on the alternative routes, please refer to the map below.
Emergency services vehicles needing to cross the river, will be able to use the ferry at any time, but with a 15 minute delay to allow for the resetting of the ferry crossing.
