PROBUS CELEBRATION

There was cake, a comedian and a huge crowd when members of the Winston Hills – Northmead Combined Probus Club met to celebrate the club’s 20th birthday.

Comedian Johnny Pace kept the crowd entertained after the cake was cut.

The crowd included foundation members Lilian Ezzy and Lawrie Woodhouse who said they had seen huge changes over the years including change of venue for monthly meetings to the Baulkham Hills Sports Club at Baulkham Hills.

The social club for retirees started with an advertisement in a local paper placed in June 1999 announcing that the Rotary Club of Winston Hills proposed to form a new combined Probus Club in the Winston Hills area.

The Foundation Meeting held on June 17, 1999 at Jiminez Restaurant, on Old Northern Road, Baulkham Hills which was attended by representatives of the Winston Hills Rotary Club and 25 interested members of the public and the very first committee was elected.

The first President was Clive Ezzy and his wife Lillian was the first Welfare Officer.

It was very soon apparent that the Jiminez Restaurant was too small for the 55 members who had joined and by August 1999 the Meetings had been moved to the Baulkham Hills Sports Club.

The club meets on the second Thursday of the month at Baulkham Hills Sports Club, Renown Rd. For more details call the secretary on 9620 4181
