Permaculture Hawkesbury: Home Canning & Preserving Workshop
Home canning and preserving are great ways to reduce waste, prolong food, and preserve garden produce. Permaculture Hawkesbury Valley Inc will hold an introductory workshop on home canning and preserving at the Hawkesbury Earthcare Centre on Saturday, 23 March 2024.
According to Permaculture Hawkesbury, the workshop will include a presentation and a hands-on canning session. During this session, attendees will make their own preserves using local and seasonal ingredients.
“In this particular workshop, we will pressure canning carrots. Participants will learn how to safely preserve high acid foods through water bath canning and low acid foods through pressure canning,” the community organisation mentioned.

- Food-safe practices for pressure canning of low-acid foods, including vegetables, meats, seafood, soups and stews
- Detailed information on canning equipment, tools and ingredients
- Canning your own or locally sourced seasonal produce to last throughout the year
- Along with a jar of preserved carrots, participants will take home an information pack containing all the information covered in class and some fabulous recipes to try at home.
