New Community Recycling Centre to open in early 2018

With the annual Household Chemical Cleanout event happening this Sunday, Council is also pleased to announce the commencement of construction of the new Community Recycling Centre at Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility located on The Driftway at South Windsor.

Due to open in early 2018, this new facility will provide a seven day a week drop off facility for household paint, batteries, motor and cooking oil, florescent light globes, fire extinguishers, and LPG cylinders.

The new facility will complement the long running Household Chemical Cleanout events by providing a dedicated drop-off venue for high volume, low toxicity and common household chemicals. The Household Chemical Cleanout events will continue in the future and provide safe disposal opportunities for high toxicity chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, acids and corrosive substances, and other chemical wastes.

This new facility reflects Council’s commitment to effectively managing our community’s problem waste streams, with mattress recycling and a free household TV and Computer recycling program already in operation at Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility.

The Community Recycling Centre is a $216,000 initiative funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Waste Less, Recycle More Program.
