Today is National TAFE Day. I got to celebrate it with incredible TAFE teachers like Maxine Sharkey from NSW Teachers Federation and fellow TAFE supporter Fiona Phillips MP.

I also welcomed the opportunity to explain the importance of TAFE to our region to Managing Director of TAFE NSW, Stephen Brady, in Parliament yesterday at the first TAFE event to mark a very important day.

The Hawkesbury is a unique peri-urban area that’s home to many tradies and where many young people want to learn trades, while the Blue Mountains relies on TAFE for its tourism, disability and hospitality training.

I’d love to see both of them expand their offerings as we match training with employer demand.

We know there is urgency in addressing the skills crisis facing the nation, and that’s why we’re strengthening the sector with an additional $1 billion in joint Federal-State funding for fee-free TAFE in 2023, and accelerated delivery of 465,000 fee-free TAFE places.

It demonstrates our commitment to act swiftly to get the skills we need in the Australian economy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][us_image image=”69301″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
