Light Up Windsor 2018
Put on your Santa hat and get into the Christmas spirit on Friday, 7 December from 5pm to 9pm at Windsor Mall’s Light Up Windsor, a free community event packed with roving entertainment, special guests (including Santa!), market stalls and performances.
The Master of Ceremonies will be popular TV host, journalist and actor Candice Dixon. The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert will also launch the Mayoral Christmas Appeal at the event in support of Hawkesbury Salvation Army. Free parking will be available at Governor Phillip Park.
Free activities will include:
• Free face painting
• Free craft activities – make your own Christmas decoration
• Live performance and meet and greet by Children’s Group ‘Jitterbugs’ at 6pm
• Live school and community group performances
• Over 30 market stalls – buy your Christmas gifts
• Windsor’s local restaurant, pubs, eateries and shops will be open
• Roving entertainment from 6pm
• Post your letter to Santa at the North Pole Post box
• Meet Santa and his merry helpers.
Hawkesbury Regional Museum will open on the night from 5pm-8pm especially for Light Up Windsor. Hawkesbury Library Service will host a library pop up at the Museum for kids to have fun reading many Christmas themed stories. Children and their families will also have the chance to make a Christmas decoration, play some super-sized games and receive a free book. A comfy reading corner will be available for those who want a quiet space away from all the hustle and bustle.
The Light up Windsor Street Fair is a long established initiative of the Windsor Business Group in partnership with Hawkesbury City Council, the Vice President of Windsor Business Group Incorporated, Gae Kelly said.
“Our first festival was held in Windsor Mall between Baker and Kable Streets as a competition for shops to dress up their windows with Christmas Lights and sparkles,” Ms Kelly said.
“Each year this exciting event has grown, with more entertainment and school groups being involved.
“It’s wonderful that Hawkesbury City Council has continued to provide financial support over the years, and we welcome their assistance again in 2018,” she said.
Light Up Windsor, initiated by the Windsor Business Group Inc., is made possible through the dedication of a small group of volunteers who put many hours into creating a Christmas spectacular for all to enjoy.
“Every year, Windsor comes to life with entertainment which includes free entertainment and market stalls with retailers, cafes and restaurants staying open late for business as part of Light Up Windsor,” Ms Kelly said.
“This year’s event is set to be the biggest ever, with Windsor Business Group volunteers working closely with Hawkesbury City Council.
“Mark the date on your calendar: Friday, 7 December for the greatest spectacular the Hawkesbury has seen, come one come all, bring Nanna and Pop and tell all your friends about it.
“We hope everyone can come to experience the ‘Windsor Way’ of celebrating Christmas.”
